How to Properly Get Rid of Old Furniture

The first step in getting rid of your old furniture is deciding whether it should be donated or disposed of. You’ll want to carefully look at the pieces and determine if they’re in good enough condition to be reused by someone else. 

If they are, you can donate them to be recycled in someone else’s home. In some cases, you might even be able to sell them yourself. If they’re not, you’ll have to think about proper disposal. 

Some furniture items, like metal bed frames, can be recycled at a traditional recycling center. Still, many other items are bulkier or contain chemicals and must go to a conventional landfill.

Many cities will fine you for illegal dumping if you put furniture out on the street, so you’ll need to figure out where to take it and how to get there.
