How Many Movers Should I Hire?

There’s no hard and fast rule about how many movers you should get for your house move. However, a good starting point is thinking about the size of your current home and how many bedrooms you have.

  • 1-2 Bedroom Apartment or Small House (1200 sq. ft. or less): 3-4 Movers
  • 2-3 Bedroom House (1000-2000 sq. ft.): 3-5 Movers
  • 3-4 Bedroom House (2000-3000 sq. ft.): 4-5 Movers
  • 5+ Bedroom House (3000+ sq. ft.): 4-6 Movers

If you have junk you need removed from the property, more heavy and bulky furniture than may be typical, long- or short-term item storage needs, multiple difficult items like pianos, need help packing and organizing, or a long walk from the house to where the moving truck will have to be, an additional mover or two may be recommended.

What Size of Truck or Trailer do I Need for My Move?

Determining what size of truck or trailer you’ll need for your house move is a similar process to figuring out how many movers to hire. Just as with the movers, if you have more bulky furniture than the typical, you may need to up-size, but this will give you an idea to start.

  • Studio or 1 Bedroom Apartment (800 sq. ft. or less): 1-2 Trucks
  • 2 Bedroom Apartment or Small House (800-1200 sq. ft.): 1-2 Trucks
  • 3 Bedroom House (1200-2000 sq. ft.): 1-2 Trucks
  • 4 Bedroom House (2000-3000 sq. ft.): 2-3 Trucks
  • 5+ Bedroom House (3000+ sq. ft.): 2-3 Trucks

With all of these, it may make more sense to use multiple smaller trucks or trailers, or multiple trips, depending on what kind of access your current home allows.

Even with a smaller home, 4-5 movers is more than enough help, but they’re all still able to stay busy the whole time to help the move go as fast as possible and save you money. However, each move is different and we will make a recommendation on crew and trailer size based on your specific situation.

Starting Move Charges (2 Hour Minimum)

  • $160/hour – 2 Home Movers, 1 Truck, 1 Trailer
  • $210/hour – 3 Home Movers, 1 Truck, 1 Trailer
  • $260/hour – 4 Home Movers, 1 Truck, 1 Trailer
  • $320/hour – 5 Home Movers, 1 Truck, 1 Trailer

Prep the Hot Tub

Dry It Out

Unplug the hot tub and start draining it 24 hours before you plan to move it. This will allow you to finish drying it with a towel right before you move it, to ensure that it doesn’t get water on any other items you’re moving.

Disassembly Required

Many hot tubs have removable power cords that are good to take off the tub to make sure they don’t snag on anything. Additionally, most tubs come with aesthetically pleasing side panels that can be very fragile – these are usually simple to take off, and may break if you don’t do so.
